Almost February
Well, tired little traveler, thanks for coming along on this ride with me. You were great company and surfed the waves and thermals like the pro you are.
I love you.
Next time… WEST COAST!
Finally, thanks to Emma for donning her Halloween alien outfit for us. Just for the record, her face will be bright green. And girl… you are good at carving pumpkins.
Last but not least, we want to thank Gene Dillon and family (Cooper and Emma) for putting us up for the weekend. Gene, thanks for giving up your bed, making us oatmeal and otherwise entertaining us when we were in your house.
We invited Dean, Julie, Nevena (foreign exchange student from Serbia) and their daughter Meleyna (hope I spelled that correctly) for dinner on Sunday night. Gene’s wife Michelle was out of town working a wedding in Las Vegas but we got to hang out with her on Monday morning before we scooted off to our plane in Denver.
Ahhh… this wedding was sooo satisfying and I think you know what I mean. I was so caught up in being there, I didn’t take as many photos as I would have liked to, but it was one of the best wedding celebrations I’ve ever attended. Nick and Cheng Hsi are a perfect match.
The room was filled with so much love from friends and family that the ceremonial mishaps became a jovial part of the ritual; a cell phone ringing three minutes in, a number of confusing changeovers, Nick’s tears during the pronouncement of his vows.
Everyone was crying and laughing on and off, all afternoon. And I have to say that while the food was amazing and the company sweet, Cheng Hsi’s father’s speech was a highlight.
(…. sigh…. )
Nick and Cheng Hsi, thanks so much for making it possible for Kitty and I to be there. It had been a long time since we’d communed with the Dronen side of the family. We also loved the chance to meet and mingle with the people who make up your world in Boulder. Best of everything to you both… and much love.
After a fluttery flight, we arrived at the Denver airport and hopped a bus to the Hertz rental station where we got into our white Aveo economy car, configured our route and headed off to the Flagstaff House where the wedding rehearsal was imminent. This was the view from wedding central, halfway up a huge rocky mountain on the edge of Boulder. Gotta love this view, yes?
Kitty and I drove and drove and drove, 14 hours to Urbana, IL and another 7 hours to my house. We arrived at home at 6:30pm and made dinner with Brent, squeezed the dogs and didn’t do any laundry because our dryer is broken. We repacked a suitcase and went to bed a bit too late, got up the next morning and were delivered to the MSP airport in time for our flight to Denver, CO.
When we arrived, we figured out quickly that our flight was departing from the Humphrey terminal so we walked (calmly) to the train which took us to the light rail and finally to our plane. Off to Denver/Boulder we go!
Well, our south’ren adventure is coming to a close. We return on blue & black highways for Cannon Falls.
While we’ve been gone, Brent has been beautifying the Littlebig studio entryway; scraping, priming, painting and otherwise taking care of the home front.
We’re sad to leave here but we’re on the long ride home… and there’s no place like home.
